HONOLULU – Accuracy made the difference for the Monroe boys basketball team Thursday.
The Bearcats made eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to fend off Sequam, B.C., 53-49 in a semifinal game of the Walter Wong Classic at St. Louis High School.
Monroe plays South Torrence, Calif., in today’s title game.
Jason Waltman had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bearcats.

Dirk Snel, who tied a school record with six 3-pointers, was 5-for-8 on 3s in the first half and scored 23 of his game-high 34 points in the first two quarters. David Benson was 3-for-3 on 3s in the first half and scored 15 of his 19 points in the first two periods. Snel and Benson accounted for 38 of Cascade’s 42 first-half points. Snel also had seven rebounds and four steals. The Bruins’ Chris McGrath had seven assists. Cascade plays Ballard in the semifinals today.
