Monroe’s Davis tops North County Invite

MARYSVILLE — Lyndy Davis of Monroe won the senior girls race with an overall best time of 18 minutes, 29 seconds at the North County Classic Invite at Cedarcrest Golf Course Thursday.

The girls race was divided into four sections grouped by year in school.

“It’s a good change of pace,” Marysville-Pilchuck coach Randall Edens said. “It’s a totally different format than they’re used to with the classes.”

Haley Nemra of Marysville-Pilchuck was second in the senior race in 19:19. Lauren Moran of Archbishop Murphy was third in 19:52.

Olivia Thomas of King’s won the junior race in 18:57. Lake Stevens’ Sam Minor won the sophomore race in 19:25 and Natasha Verma of Stanwood was second at 19:50. Lake Stevens’ Lacey Wagner won the freshman race in 19:06. Suzanna Ohlsen of Monroe was second in 19:44 and Cia Bywater of Lake Stevens was third in 19:45.

“We try to simulate state as much as possible,” Edens said. “We run on the golf course and flag the course … it’s good to have something like this for a change of pace.”

Everett District 21, Mukilteo District 37: At Everett, Allison Ponce of Jackson set the McCollum Park course record in winning the race for the Everett District with a time of 20 minutes, 10 seconds. Ponce shaved eight seconds off the record time Ellie Bonner of Snohomish posted on the course last week. Breanna Huschka of Kamiak was third in 20:28. Shelly Davis of Kamiak led the Mukilteo District, finishing second in 20:22. Kat Campos of Mariner was sixth in 21:45 and was the Marauders’ top placer.

Everett District 22, Mukilteo District 52: At Everett, Mitchell Briggs of Jackson won the boys race in a time of 16 minutes, 51 seconds to lead the Everett District to the non-league victory. Jonathan Cooper of Kamiak was second in 17:03 to lead the Mukilteo District.

Mountlake Terrace’s Michael Tran was second at 15:12 as the Warriors and the Hawks took the top 10 places at the Edmonds District Meet. Meadowdale’s Adam Weyant was 11th at 16:57. Lynnwood’s Chris Reeves was 16th in 17:41 and was the top Royals finisher.

North County Classic Invite: At Marysville, Scott Larson of Lake Stevens won the junior race in a meet-best 16 minutes, 23 seconds. Monroe’s Brian Sutter was second in 16:24, and Alex Johnson of Seattle Academy was third in 16:27.

Paul Simbeck of Arlington won the senior race in 16:57. Taylor Guske of Lakewood took first in the sophomore race with 16:35. Nooksack Valley’s Ollie Bear Don’t Walk won the freshman race in 17:35.
