More on Redmon

The school just put out an official release on Redmon’s departure, and it is attached below. You’ll notice that Tia Jackson sounds surprised in her quote, and I’ve got to say I am too. Being around Redmon this season, she certainly seemed happy on the team and looked to be getting along well with Tia Jackson this season.

I’m hoping to get Redmon and Jackson on the phone, and if I do I’ll pass on some details here.

Here’s the UW release:

UW Freshman Basketball Player Decides To Transfer

Katelan Redmon to leave the Husky women’s basketball program.

SEATTLE – University of Washington women’s basketball freshman Katelan Redmon has decided to leave the program and transfer to another institution, university officials announced today.

“I never thought in a million years I would be revealing what I am today,” said UW head coach Tia Jackson, who recently concluded her first year in charge of the Husky program. “However, Katelan Redmon has opted to forgo her time here at Washington. There are several reasons for her decision and as you can imagine this program is incredibly disappointed that she has elected to leave. Katelan has been an integral part of the success of our program this past season and an absolute gem to coach. We wish her all the best as we continue onward to prepare for what still is a very bright future for Husky Women’s Basketball.”

Redmond averaged a team-high 11.8 points per game, was selected to the Pacific-10 Conference all-freshman team and set a UW freshman record by starting all 31 games during the season. She also led the team in field goals made and attempted and was second in rebounding.

A native of Spokane, Wash., Redmon has not informed the school of her future plans.
