University president Dr. Mark Emmert met with the media earlier today, and for those looking for a simple answer, Emmert wasn’t giving it.
He said that the decision was a “very amicable arrangement” and had been in the making for a little while, and that it was an issue of finding the “right fit” for the school.
Emmert said the decision didn’t have to do with them clashing over Tyrone Willingham’s future, and that he was as much behind Willingham as Turner. One criticism of Turner recently has been over a lack of funds for stadium renovations, but Emmert again said that that wasn’t the issue.
In all, Emmert didn’t give any concrete reasons for Turner’s departure, though he seemed to indicate that Turner was brought in to bring stability to a program in turmoil, and that they were now moving in a new direction.
I’ll be back as we learn anything new.
