Casting for Recovery, a nonprofit group that introduces breast cancer survivors to fly fishing, is holding a school for women who are intermediate fly fishers May 6-8 (Mothers Day weekend) to raise funds.
Denise Maxwell, a former world casting distance and accuracy champion, will volunteer her time, as will a team of certified casting instructors.
Maxwell is the first woman to hold a steelhead guide’s license in British Columbia. She has guided on the Bulkley River for many years and has served on the board of governors of the Federation of Fly Fishers.
Proceeds will support a fly fishing retreat for the state’s breast cancer survivors.
Pariticipants will improve their casting skills as well as learn more about line management and mending, bugs in the stream and reading the water to find more fish.
The event will be at Sun Country resort in Cle Elum with instruction on the Yakima River and on a stocked private pond. The cost is $375.
