Mount Baker ousts Lakewood

BELLINGHAM – The Mount Baker Mountaineers took advantage of six Lakewood fumbles to spark it’s offense in a 28-21 winner-to-state, loser-out, 2A District 1 playoff victory Tuesday night at Bellingham Civic Field

With the victory, Mount Baker (8-3 overall) plays La Center, at 1 p.m. Saturday in a first-round state playoff game. Lakewood finished its season with a 9-2 record.

Mount Baker, primarily a running team, used the pass when backup quarterback D.J. Williamson came on in relief of injured starter Tyler Murray in the second quarter. Williamson was 6-for-6 with 110 passing yards and two touchdown passes.

Behind 14-13 late in the second quarter, Williamson used the play action pass to hit a wide-open Kyle Kinder in the corner of the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown to gain the lead for good.

Lakewood was led by Anthony Wiederkehr and Brad Sears who combined for 117 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

Meridian 42, King’s 0: Meridian used a balanced attack to throttle the King’s Knights in a winner-to-state,

loser-out 2A District 1 playoff game Tuesday night at Bellingham Civic Field.

Trojan quarterback Jordan Slesk threw three touchdown passes, ran for a touchdown and had an interception return for a touchdown to lead Meridian (9-2).

King’s (4-6) could muster just one first down in the second half.
