Mountlake Terrace pitcher throws perfect game vs. Mariner

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – Opponents have had trouble scoring against Lindsay Woodhouse for a while. But now that she’s officially perfect, simply getting on base might be too much to hope for.

Woodhouse, a junior pitcher, struck out 11 batters while throwing her first perfect game as Mountlake Terrace defeated Mariner 9-0 Tuesday in a Western Conference South Division fastpitch softball game.

Woodhouse (8-2) hasn’t allowed a run in four straight starts and 29 innings overall.

“She’s just doing a great job of keeping people off balance,” said Mountlake Terrace coach Kim Stewart, whose team improved to 7-2 in league, 9-2 overall. “She’s greatly improved this year, as far as her pitch repertoire.”

“It’s tough enough in this league to throw a no-hitter,” Stewart said, “but to throw a perfect one is pretty cool.”

Two great defensive plays helped Woodhouse achieve perfection, Stewart said. In the first at-bat of the game, Terrace third baseman Jamie Foote pounced on a hard ground ball hit to her left and threw to first base for the out. “It was just a rocket shot and she made it look routine,” Stewart said.

Later, during the first Mariner at-bat of the seventh, Hawk shortstop Megan Watson snagged a sharp grounder hit to her right and her throw beat the runner to first.

Mountlake Terrace didn’t need much offense to back up Woodhouse, but in the fourth the Hawks scored five runs to put the game away.

Overall, leadoff hitter Briana Knight was 3-for-3 with two walks. Foote was 2-for-3.
