Mountlake Terrace prevails in close boys cross country meet

EVERETT – Oak Harbor’s Chris Wichers beat Mountlake Terrace’s Corey Prengschat for first place, but the Hawks edged the Wildcats in a Western Conference boys cross country meet Wednesday at McCullom Park when Terrace runners also placed third and fourth.

Terrace scored 40 points to Oak Harbor’s 43. Marysville-Pilchuck was close behind in third with 45 points while host Mariner finished last with 91 points.

Wichers ran the course in 16 minutes, 49 seconds – seven seconds ahead of Prengschat (16:56).

Arlington (0-2, 1-6) was paced by Kristen McKeown with nine blocks and 10 kills.

Kamiak 3, Jackson 2: At Mukilteo, Alison Swanson had 38 assists and Stephanie Lau added 23 kills to help Kamiak (2-0 in league and 6-1) come back from a two-set deficit to win the Wesco South competition 18-25, 17-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-12. Ashley Allen led Jackson (0-2, 3-4) with 18 blocks.

Darrington 3, Lopez 0: At Darrington, Melissa Cave had six kills, six blocks and seven aces to help lead Darrington (3-0 in league, 5-1 overall) to the 25-10, 25-17, 25-14 Northwest B victory. Lopez fell to 2-1 in league.

Coupeville 3, Archbishop Murphy 0: At Everett, Coupeville (4-1 in league, 8-2 overall) was led by the 12 assists by Mindy Horr and the 16 kills by Vanessa Davis, winning the Northwest A match 25-22, 25-19, 25-14. Ashley Warner paced Archbishop Murphy (2-2, 5-4) with 10 kills.

Boys tennis

Everett 4, Mountlake Terrace 3: The Hawks won the Nos. 1 through 3 singles matches in straight sets, but Everett swept the doubles matches, led by Trevor Swezey and Kirk Nielson’s win at No.1, and captured the league meet.
