Mountlake Terrace wins in overtime

EDMONDS – Mike Boxley hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime and teammate Justynn Hammond scored four points in the extra period to lead Mountlake Terrace past Edmonds-Woodway 48-45 during Tuesday’s Western Conference South game.

“This was a pretty big game for us,” said Mountlake Terrace coach Nalin Sood, whose team clinched the No. 1 4A district berth.

“They (the Warriors) don’t score a lot of points, but their defense really kept us in check,” Sood said.

After falling behind 15-5, the Hawks (13-3 league, 15-3 overall) used a 10-0 run to start the third quarter to tie the score. Luke Hammond led Mountlake Terrace with 19 points and Boxley finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

“We held Jason (Hopkins) without a field goal in the second half, that was big,” Sood said.

Hopkins scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half, including seven field goals for Edmonds-Woodway (11-4, 13-4).

“It was nip and tuck in that second half,” Sood said.

It was Mountlake Terrace’s seventh-straight victory and 14th win in its last 15 games.
