Running back Shaun Alexander was one of three Seattle Seahawks signed by the Washington Redskins on Thursday, ESPN is reporting.
Alexander, 31, reportedly signed a one-year contract with the team, reuniting him with former Seahawks running backs coach Stump Mitchell. The Redskins were looking for someone to back up Clinton Portis after veteran Ladell Betts got hurt.
Punter Ryan Plackemeier and safety Michael Green were also signed by the Redskins, ESPN reported.
Alexander has been out of football since the end of last season. His next game will be the first one Alexander plays with an NFL team other than the Seahawks. He spent eight seasons with the Seahawks, rushing for a franchise-record 9,429 yards during that span.
But Alexander struggled with injuries the past two seasons and was cut by the team in April.
Green spent two injury-plagued seasons in Seattle before getting cut this summer.
Plackemeier was the Seahawks’ punter when the season starter but was replaced by Jon Ryan.
