GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Ariel Miranda allowed one run in three innings of work and Tuffy Gosewisch hit his first home run of the spring, but the Seattle Mariners lost to the Cleveland Indians 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark.
The Mariners plated the first run of the afternoon in the top of the second inning when Taylor Motter drove an RBI triple off the wall in right-center field to bring home Mike Ford.
Cleveland took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run from Melvin Upton Jr. The Indians extended their lead to 4-1 with three straight two-out singles in the bottom of the sixth.
Gosewisch’s home run in the ninth inning provided the final tally.
Making his second start of the spring, left-hander Miranda allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out three over three innings pitched. Juan Nicasio worked a scoreless fourth inning, striking out one. Edwin Diaz struck out two, but surrendered Upton’s two-run home run in his only inning of work.
