SEATTLE — All-Star outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is out of the Seattle Mariners’ lineup because of a strained left calf.
Suzuki was not in his normal leadoff spot in the lineup for Monday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics. Center fielder Franklin Gutierrez was batting leadoff, while Bill Hall was starting in right field for Seattle.
A team spokesman said Suzuki is day-to-day.
Suzuki left Sunday’s game in Cleveland before the start of the ninth inning.
