BOSTON – A Seattle Mariners team bus caught fire inside the Ted Williams Tunnel on the way to the airport Sunday, but no members of the club were hurt.
The driver suffered smoke inhalation but there were no other injuries, state police said.
The cause was not immediately known.
The Mariners were taking two buses from Fenway Park to Logan International Airport after a 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
Players and staff on the bus that caught fire boarded the other team bus outside the tunnel and arrived at the airport for the flight back to Seattle, team spokesman Randy Adamack said.
The Boston Fire Department closed the tunnel until the fire was extinguished at 6:20 p.m., one hour after it was reported.
