The Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder Quinton McCracken from the Arizona Diamondbacks today in exchange for infielder Greg Colbrunn.
“McCracken is a switch-hitter with the ability to play all three outfield positions,” Mariners general manager Bob Bavasi said. “He gives our manager the ability to rest any of our outfielders at any time, as well as speed off the bench.”
McCracken, 33, is a .280 career hitter. He has played for Colorado, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Arizona. Last season with the Diamondbacks, he hit .227 with no home runs and 18 RBI in 115 games.
Colbrunn, who missed the final three and a half months of the 2003 season because of a wrist injury, appeared in just 22 games for the Mariners. He .276 with three home runs and seven RBI.
