Mud slows Everett runner’s bid for record

EVERETT – Even the rain and mud couldn’t slow down Everett’s Alex Stanovsky.

Stanovsky lost his shoe twice in the soggy trail, but was still able to comfortably win the Wesco boys cross country meet Thursday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Aiming for the course record, Stanovsky just missed in 15 minutes, 9 seconds, 19 seconds before the second-place finisher Jackson’s Jordan Butler.

Despite strong finishes by an Everett and Jackson runners, it was Mountlake Terrace that won the team title.

The Hawks finished with five top-10 finishers led by Ben Walters’ time of 15:42.

Walters finished third overall, teammate Michael Tran (15:50) finished fifth and Robert Yarbrough (15:59), Tyler Hill (16:05) and Matt Beeninga (16:06) were 8-9-10, respectively.

“I heard them celebrate. They (Mountlake Terrace) were pumped up,” Everett coach Bruce Overstreet said referring to the Hawks win.
