Everett Silvertips center Peter Mueller signed a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League on Thursday.
Mueller, a gifted 19-year-old playmaker from Bloomington, Minn., was the eighth-overall pick by Phoenix in the 2006 NHL draft.
Mueller has been a star during his two seasons in Everett, being named WHL Rookie of the Year in 2006 and a first-team Western Conference all-star in 2007. This past season he was the Silvertips’ second-leading scorer, with 78 points (21 goals, 57 assists) in 51 games.
The contract makes Mueller eligible to play for Phoenix in the upcoming season, but he could still return to Everett if the Coyotes decide he needs more experience.
