Mukilteo’s Kimberly Beard ranked as best prep hammer thrower

The King’s High School junior’s mark of 186 feet, 6 inches topped all competitors in U.S.

King’s High School junior Kimberly Beard was named to the Track and Field News All-American Team as the top-ranked prep hammer thrower in the country for the 2024 season in its November issue.

The periodical used a combination of absolute distance (186 feet, 6 inches) and Beard’s second-place finish in the USA Track and Field U20 Championships to place her above the other two athletes included. The rankings take into account the quality of meets an athlete participates in, head-to-head competition against other ranked high school athletes, along with the top overall marks of athletes.

Beard, a Mukilteo resident, was also recognized as a finalist for their Female Athlete of the Year and had the best throw in the country for the season in addition to being state champion and winning the hammer throw in the 2024 Junior Olympic Championships.
