Mummau to manage AquaSox in 2015

EVERETT — Rob Mummau is returning to Everett.

Mummau, who managed the Everett AquaSox in 2012 and 2013, is returning to manage the Sox again this year following a one-year hiatus, the Seattle Mariners announced Monday.

The 43-year-old Mummau, who resides in Stephens City, Virginia, is entering his 14th season with the Mariners organization as both a minor-league manager and a scout. During his previous two seasons with Everett, the Mariners’ affiliate in the short-season single-A Northwest League, he guided the team to a 90-62 record, reaching the playoffs both years.

Last season Mummau managed Pulaski, Seattle’s affiliate in the rookie Appalachian League. Pulaski went 36-30 and finished third in the five-team East Division.

Mummau takes over for Dave Valle, who spent one season as Everett’s manager. Valle, the former Mariners catcher who was making his managing debut following 18 years away from the field, guided the Sox to a 28-48 record last season, which was the worst mark in the Northwest League. Valle was not among the minor-league staffs announced by the Mariners on Monday.

Everett also announced the rest of its field staff. Mike Davis returns for his second season as Everett’s hitting coach. Jason Blanton, who was with Mummau in Pulaski last season, will serve as pitching coach.

Everett opens the 2015 season at home on June 18 against the Eugene Emeralds.
