Silvertips captain Ryan Murray was named to Canada’s roster for the Canada-Russia Challenge, Hockey Canada announced today.
Murray was one of 28 players selected for the event, which takes place in early August with two games in Russia and two games in Canada. Hockey Canada is using the event as an evaluation tool for the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championships. Murray is one of seven players returning from Canada’s team that won the bronze medal at the previous World Juniors.
The event precedes Tips training camp, so it won’t interfere with Murray’s availability for that. However, it remains to be seen how the team that drafts Murray next weekend, or the potential for NHL labor strife, factor into the equation.
