SAN JOSE, Calif. — Junior Darington Hobson, who led New Mexico in scoring, rebounding and assists, will be available to play against the University of Washington after bruising his wrist in an NCAA first-round game on Thursday night.
The Albuquerque Journal reported Friday that Hobson had X-rays on the wrist and has been cleared for Saturday’s game against the Huskies.
Hobson averaged 16.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists during the regular season, earning Mountain West Conference player-of-the-year honors.
He took a hard fall during the second half of Thursday night’s win over Montana, hurting his back and wrist. While Hobson finished the game, coach Steve Alford said afterward that his status for Saturday’s game was up in the air.
The Huskies and Lobos are scheduled to play Saturday afternoon, 30 minutes after the completion of the 12:20 p.m. game between Butler and Murray State.
The winner of the UW-New Mexico game plays either West Virginia or Missouri in Syracuse, N.Y., next week. The Butler-Murray State winner plays in Salt Lake City.
