New XC rankings: Jackson boys No. 1 in 4A

After sitting at No. 2 the past two weeks, the Jackson boys climbed to the coveted No. 1 spot in this week’s Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association Class 4A poll.

Mead, the previous No. 1 squad, dropped to No. 3.

Jackson placed second Saturday in the Varsity Boys Seeded event at the Stanford Invitational in California. Mead of Spokane finished eighth.

Jackson’s top five finishers on the 5-kilometer course were Ben Lance (16 minutes, 2 seconds; 14th overall), Connor Frederickson (16:13, 18th), Mitchell Briggs (16:30, 36th), Ian McLeod (16:39, 46th) and Sean Roe (16:41, 48th).

The Lakewood boys also generated an impressive performance at the Stanford Invite. The Cougars won the Varsity Division 4-5 team title. The top runners for Lakewood, which in now ranked sixth in the state in 2A, were Taylor Guske (16:19, eighth), Nick Devier (16:34, 14th), Chad Skiles (17:07, 33rd), Byron Gouette (17:21, 40th) and Trent Tresch (17:31, 46th).
