GIANTS: An arrest warrant was issued for Mark Ingram, a star on the New York Giants’ 1991 Super Bowl-winning team who failed for a third time to appear in federal court for sentencing on a money laundering and bank fraud conviction. U.S. District Court Judge Denis Hurley said the warrant won’t be enforced until Sept. 15. Ingram is expected to get 7½ to 9½ years in prison.
BILLS: Rather than losing a game paycheck of more than $191,000, Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters made plans to end his holdout and report to the team. Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon released a statement saying, “It is our understanding that Jason has filed a reinstatement letter with the National Football League and that he is reporting to the team’s headquarters (today).”
FANTASY: CBS has filed a federal lawsuit to establish its right to use without charge the statistics that underlie fantasy football leagues. The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Minneapolis by the network’s online operation claims that the NFL Players Association has threatened to sue the company if it does not pay licensing fees for the statistics. The lawsuit said CBS had paid a licensing fee to the players in the past, but stopped when its most recent deal expired on Feb. 29. The company decided that it did not need to pay the fee because of a ruling from 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis in a similar lawsuit involving fantasy baseball.
RAVENS: After signing his three-year, $11 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens, offensive tackle Willie Anderson hopes to play in Sunday’s season opener against the team that cut him. The 6-foot-5, 340-pound former Cincinnati Bengals team captain was cut by the Bengals after refusing to take a pay cut and chose the Ravens over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams.
EAGLES: Philadelphia could play the season opener without its two top wide receivers after Reggie Brown missed his second straight practice. Brown has been sidelined since straining his left hamstring in the second preseason game. Kevin Curtis is already out indefinitely after having surgery for a sports hernia. Head coach Andy Reid said he would employ a receiver-by-committee approach. Rookie DeSean Jackson, Greg Lewis, Hank Baskett and Jason Avant will rotate at the two spots.
JAGUARS: Jacksonville receiver Jerry Porter was ruled out of Sunday’s season opener at Tennessee because of a hamstring injury. Porter, who signed a lucrative contract to be the team’s No. 1 receiver during the offseason, had surgery to repair a torn hamstring a week before training camp. He missed all of camp and the preseason, but returned to practice Monday.
COWBOYS: Dallas cornerback Terence Newman is listed as questionable for the season opener at Cleveland. Newman’s uncertain status on Friday’s injury report was another sign that Adam Jones may make his Dallas debut as a starter on Sunday. Newman missed nearly all of training camp, and the entire preseason, while dealing with a slightly torn groin muscle.
