NFL notes

LIONS: A torn knee ligament will keep Detroit running back Kevin Jones out of the team’s final regular-season game this weekend and could sideline him until the start of training camp.

Tests revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Jones’ right knee. He was injured late in the first half of Sunday’s 25-20 victory over Kansas City after being tackled on a short reception.

Coach Rod Marinelli said Monday the team’s medical staff will wait until swelling goes down in the knee to determine the best remedy. He wasn’t sure of the extent of the tear or whether it will need surgery.

RAVENS: Running back Willis McGahee will miss the season finale against the Steelers with two fractured ribs. McGahee’s was hurt in Sunday’s 27-6 loss to the Seahawks.

RAIDERS: Rookie quarterback JaMarcus Russell will get his first career start Sunday against the AFC West champion Chargers.

STEELERS: Running back Willie Parker, the NFL’s leading rusher when he broke his right leg Thursday night in St. Louis, was officially lost for the season when Pittsburgh placed him on the injured reserve list.

SAINTS: Cornerback Mike McKenzie tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and has been placed on injured reserve.

BROWNS: Cleveland Browns starting nose tackle Ethan Kelly and backup safety Mike Adams were placed on injured reserve with knee injuries.

PANTHERS: Carolina center Justin Hartwig sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in a loss to Dallas and will miss the final week of the season.

BILLS: Buffalo left tackle Jason Peters will miss Buffalo’s season finale at Philadelphia on Sunday because of a groin injury that could also keep him from playing in the Pro Bowl in February.

DOLPHINS: Miami coach Cam Cameron won’t talk about his team’s new executive vice president of football operations, or speak his name around reporters.

During his news conference Monday, Cameron carefully danced around reporters’ inquiries about Bill Parcells, who signed a four-year contract with the 1-14 Dolphins last week. He tiptoed through several questions about Miami’s latest hire without ever mentioning Parcells by name.

“He and I haven’t talked, strictly that,” Cameron said. “It’s not that I’m not acknowledging something. It’s just the fact that he and I will sit down one on one. He and I haven’t talked.”
