Kansas City running back Larry Johnson was suspended for Week 10 of the NFL season by commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
Johnson already was deactivated the last two weeks by Kansas City and also won’t play this Sunday against Tampa Bay. He will miss the Chiefs’ game at San Diego next weekend under the NFL’s suspension.
Johnson is not permitted on the team’s premises until Nov. 10. The suspension will cost him about $147,000, or one game check.
Johnson was charged Monday with simple assault for spitting his drink in a woman’s face on Oct. 10, the fourth time in five years Johnson has been accused of assualting a woman.
Johnson also faces a Dec. 4 court date for another incident that occurred last February when he allegedly pushed a woman’s face in another Kansas City nightspot.
Cowboys’ Witten questionable
Dallas tight end Jason Witten still hasn’t been ruled out of playing with a broken rib against the New York Giants, even after missing practice again Friday.
Witten hasn’t practiced this week with the Cowboys, but the team listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game. The four-time Pro Bowl tight end, hurt in last week’s victory over Tampa Bay, said he hopes to play.
Coach Wade Phillips said Witten could play against the Giants without practicing. Phillips also said Tony Romo, who will miss his third consecutive game because of the broken pinkie on his throwing hand, may resume throwing next week.
Jets’ LB Harris doubtful
New York Jets linebacker David Harris was listed Friday as doubtful for the team’s game at Buffalo this weekend with a strained groin. Harris, who leads the Jets with 52 tackles, didn’t practice all week after leaving in the second quarter of the Jets’ 28-24 victory over Kansas City on Sunday. As he had the previous two days, Harris rode a stationary bike during the time the media are allowed to watch.
Starting safety Eric Smith, who had two concussions in three weeks and was pulled late in the first half Sunday after taking a glancing blow, will not play Sunday after not practicing all week.
Packers extend QB Rodgers
Green Bay made a long-term commitment to quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Friday, signing the first-year starter to a contract extension through 2014. Terms were not disclosed. In seven games this season, Rogers has completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,668 yards and 12 touchdowns with just four interceptions. His passer rating is 98.8.
Redskins’ Moss questionable
Washington receiver Santana Moss was unable to practice again Friday because of a strained hamstring. Moss is now a game-time decision for Monday night’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Moss was injured in last week’s win over Detroit, a game in which he caught a 50-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 80 yards for a score. His 658 yards receiving rank fifth in the NFL.
