RALEIGH, N.C. — This ought to make the Carolina Hurricanes’ training camp worth watching: Aaron Ward skating with the player who decked him during the playoffs.
The Hurricanes on Friday reacquired the rugged defenseman who helped them win the 2006 Stanley Cup from the Boston Bruins for forward Patrick Eaves and a fourth-round draft pick next year.
The move makes teammates of Ward and Scott Walker, the player who infamously punched him during the Eastern Conference semifinals. Walker decked Ward late during Game 5 of the series won by Carolina.
Coyotes offer made
PHOENIX — A group headed by Jerry Reinsdorf submitted a bid by Friday’s deadline to buy the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes, and an offer by a second bidder was promised. Reinsdorf’s offer to buy the team for about $148 million was expected.
Another group of investors headed by Canadian-born businessman Daryl Jones submitted a letter of intent to submit by Aug. 5.
Winnik gets deal
GLENDALE — Phoenix Coyotes forward Daniel Winnik was awarded a one-year contract following an arbitration hearing.
Terms of the deal were not released Friday. Last year the 24-year-old left winger had three goals in 49 games.
