BELLINGHAM – In the clutch, Meadowdale’s Ben Mummy came through and his team is going to the regional tournament.
Mummy hit a leadoff home run in the eighth inning as the Meadowdale Mavericks beat Anacortes 6-4 in a must-win nightcap of the Class 3A Northwest District playoffs Saturday at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham.
Pitcher Loren Wade picked up the win for the Mavericks.
Mummy also hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
Meadowdale had lost to Lynden 17-7 in an afternoon battle at the tournament.
In the early game, Troy Taubenheim recorded his sixth win of the season as Lynden scored in every inning until the game was halted after five.
Mummy took the loss for Meadowdale.
