Nine of the 11 local players selected in last week’s Major League Baseball draft have signed professional contracts.
The nine include:
n Outfielder Ian Parmley from Monroe. Parmley played this spring for Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. He was a seventh-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays.
n Outfielder Derek Jones from Snohomish. Jones was an All-Pac-12 performer at Washington State University this season. He was drafted in the eighth round by the Colorado Rockies.
n Right-handed pitcher Keone Kela from Everett Community College. Kela was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 12th round.
n Right-handed pitcher Aaron West from Snohomish. West was one of the top pitchers on the University of Washington’s staff this spring. He signed with the Houston Astros as a 17th-round pick.
n Right-handed pitcher Chris Johnson from Edmonds. Johnson pitched this spring at the University of Portland. He was a 17th-round choice of the San Francisco Giants.
n Catcher-outfielder Chase Anselment of Edmonds. Anselment played at the University of Washington this spring. He signed with the Atlanta Braves as a 17th-round choice.
n Right-handed pitcher Owen Jones from Edmonds. Jones, the closer for the University of Portland baseball team, was a 19th-round selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He joins his brother Austin, a seventh-round pick by the Yankees last year, in pro ball.
n Right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks from Edmonds Community College. Brooks, drafted in the 26th round, signed with the Seattle Mariners.
n Shortstop Taylor Smith-Brennan from Edmonds Community College. Smith-Brennan signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, who picked him in the 37th round.
Unsigned as of Tuesday afternoon were a pair of Lake Stevens High School standouts: infielder Dylan LaVelle (18th round, Detroit Tigers) and pitcher Jake Nelson (26th round, Red Sox).
