NLL Power Rankings: Week 3

1. Colorado Mammoth (4-0), It’s fair to say that even if you thought the Mammoth were going to be improved, you didn’t expect this. I know I didn’t. The young Mammoth have dominated so far — and make no mistake, as competitive as this league is, winning four games in a row is no easy feat. The Mammoth will hold the top spot until somebody can knock them off.

2. Philadelphia Wings (2-1), The Wings are coming off an impressive victory over Buffalo and currently have a 1/2 game lead in the East. Most around the league thought they would be much improved and it appears they are correct.

3. Toronto Rock (2-2), The Rock make the biggest jump this week from No. 8 to No. 3 based on going 2-0, with wins over Rochester and Calgary. After a disappointing start to the season, the Rock now look like the defending champions of the NLL that they are.

4. Edmonton Rush (1-1), I’m going to take a chance on the Rush and move them up a couple of spots. They completely dismantled Washington last Saturday in a 16-5 win on the road at Comcast Arena and their only loss came to Colorado by just one goal. The Rush could very well be for real.

5. Calgary Roughnecks (2-2), The Roughnecks fall two spots after a one-goal loss to the defending champs from Toronto. Roughneck fans shouldn’t worry though, that’s not a bad loss and they are still one of the more talented teams in the league.

6. Buffalo Bandits (2-2), The Bandits drop four spots after an 0-2 weekend. I’m not going to put too much stock in it because the league is so competitive, although they might be a little worried after the beat down that Minnesota put on them last Saturday.

7. Minnesota Swarm (1-1), Last week I said all the young Swarm might need is a win and they got it in a big way over Buffalo. The Swarm look to be on the rise and following a trend of younger teams having early success.

8. Rochester Knighthawks (1-3), After a win in week one the Knighthawks have lost three straight and are reeling. The good news, it is still early and the Knighthawks are only 1 1/2 games out of first place.

9. Washington Stealth (0-3), Maybe even more surprising than Colorado’s fast start is how bad the Stealth have been. Washington had opportunities to win its first to games, but Edmonton thoroughly embarrassed the Stealth at Comcast Arena on Saturday night. The Stealth are off to their worst start in franchise history and face a good Buffalo team this Saturday. Needless to say, the Stealth desperately need a win.
