TEMPE, Ariz. — Promise Amukamara scored 14 points and No. 22 Arizona State overwhelmed Washington in the first half on Saturday to open Pac-12 play with a 62-48 win.
The Sun Devils (12-1) won their eighth-straight by racing to a 37-13 lead at the half, holding the Huskies (11-2), who had won 11 straight, scoreless for the last 8:43.
Kelsey Plum, the nation’s leading scorer at 26.6 points a game, had 17 to lead Washington but she had just four in the first half, when the Huskies had 19 of their 24 turnovers, which the Sun Devils turned into 19 points.
Washington, which shoots 36.3 percent and averages 8.6 baskets from 3-point range, was just 1 of 14 behind the arc. ASU has only allowed one team to make more than three 3s in a game and now has held an opponent to less than 25 points 11 times this season.
