As expected, Seahawks president and general manager Tim Ruskell announced his resignation this morning.
He said he had pushed for resolution on his status beyond this year—the last year of his five-year contract—and when the team didn’t offer him an extension, he decided it was time to move on.
Vulcan Sports and Entertainment CEO Tod Leiweke praised Ruskell for his contributions to the team, but added:
“Quite simply we didn’t win enough games,” Leiweke said. “I work for a man, Paul Allen, who has exacting standards… Bottom line, we didn’t win enough games.”
Ruston Webster, the team’s vice president of player personnel, will serve as the interim general manager until a permanent hire is made.
No news was given on the process or time table for finding Ruskell’s replacement, and when asked if Mike Holmgren was a candidate, Leiweke said, “I’m just not going to go there. I’m not going to talk about that today.”
