NW basketball roundup: Husky women repel Seattle in 94-64 win

SEATTLE — Kelsey Plum scored 44 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as No. 15 Washington rolled to a 94-64 victory over Seattle on Saturday night.

Plum was 15 of 23 from the field, made four 3-pointers and was 10 of 10 from the line. She’s 16 3-point baskets shy of breaking the program record, and is 137 points away from becoming the Pac-12 career-scoring leader. She scored a career-best and program record 45 points against Oklahoma in 2014.

Chantel Osahor, who had Washington’s first triple-double on Tuesday against Idaho, finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Katie Collier added 10 points for the Huskies.

Kaylee Best scored 21 points to lead Seattle (1-5). Claire Metoyer and Alexis Montgomery had 11 points apiece.

Washington (5-1) led 45-40 at halftime and had a double-digit lead two minutes into the third quarter.

MEN

TCU 93, Washington 80

LAS VEGAS — Alex Robinson scored a career-high 24 points to lead TCU to a victory over Washington in the championship game of the Global Sports Classic on Saturday night.

Karviar Shepherd added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting both from the field and free-throw line for TCU (6-0), which never trailed. Vladimir Brodziansky contributed 12 points, Kenrich Williams had 11 and Jaylen Fisher 10 for the Horned Frogs.

Washington’s Markelle Fultz finished with 27 points, but fouled out with seven minutes left. Fultz, who is averaging 23 points per game, went 8 of 13 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Noah Dickerson and David Crisp had 14 points apiece for Washington (4-2).

TCU reserves outscored the Huskies’ bench 48-18.

In the second half, Washington cut the lead to 39-35, and later to 54-52, before the Horned Frogs put it away with a 19-6 run.

UCF 67, Seattle 51

ORLANDO, Fla. — Matt Williams scored 20 points and made 6 of 12 3-pointers, Tacko Fall grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked four shots and UCF beat Seattle on Saturday.

Fall opened with a layup and UCF (4-1) never trailed. B.J. Taylor scored 10 points in the first half and the Knights led 33-20 at halftime after holding the Redhawks to 25 percent shooting from the floor (8 of 32).

Brendan Westendorf scored 14 points and Morgan Means added 10 for Seattle (2-4), which ends a five-game road trip.

Eastern Washington 85, Denver 80, OT

CHENEY — Jacob Wiley scored 22 points and fueled the go-ahead drive in overtime to help Eastern Washington slip past Denver for an 85-80 win Saturday night.

Trailing by three in the extra period, Eastern Washington (4-2) overtook Denver during a 6-0 spurt bookended with Wiley’s buckets to make it 81-78 with 1:36 left. Denver (1-3) then got a pair of free throws from Jake Pemberton to cut the deficit back to one but the Eagles hung on, padding the advantage with a final layup from Bogdan Bliznyuk. The Eagles sealed it with a pair of free throws from Wiley with 2 seconds to play.
