Oak Harbor girls basketball team defeats Cascade 54-36

OAK HARBOR — The Oak Harbor girls basketball team dispatched Cascade 54-36 Saturday night at Oak Harbor High School for the WildCats’ third Wesco North victory of the week.

“We played three teams battling for playoff position this week, ” Oak Harbor Coach Brett Mcleod said (Cascade, Marysville-Pilchuck and Monroe). “We talked about going 3-0 … it keeps us within striking distance of the top two spots.”

Oak Harbor’s Jessica Denmon hit two 3-pointers, pulled down eight rebounds and scored 10 points and the Wildcats shot 46 percent from the field to defeat Cascade, which fell to 6-7 overall. Eight different Oak Harbor players scored, and junior guard Cheyenne Tubo chipped in five assists, helping Oak Harbor bounce back from a lackluster second quarter, in which the Wildcats saw a 14-point lead cut in half.

“I thought Cascade out-hustled us in the second quarter,” Mcleod said. “We talked about defense at halftime, better defense … Tubo made some great passes in the third.”

Cascade was led by Katy Gross’ 11 points.
