Oak Harbor notches district playoff berth

OAK HARBOR — The Oak Harbor Wildcats clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth in convincing fashion Friday, defeating Everett 74-22 in a Wesco North contest.

“That was definitely a goal of ours to clinch a playoff spot,” Oak Harbor coach Brett McLoed said.

Oak Harbor led 25-4 after the opening period and held the Seagulls to single-digit point totals in each quarter.

“One of our our goals was to come out fast,” said McLeod, adding that Oak Harbor started slow against Arlington in its previous home game. “We wanted to not take anything for granted and we did that … We had to make sure we didn’t get set in that mindset — we didn’t want it to become a habit.”

Mietra Smollack had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Jessica Denmon had 14 points, Janay Baeyen had 11 and Clair Thiel added 10 points and eight rebounds for Oak Harbor.
