Oak Harbor takes big lead

MOUNT VERNON – Oak Harbor’s Eric McCardie shot a 2-under-par 70 to hold a three-stroke lead over Mount Vernon’s Brian O’Laughlin Wednesday in the opening round of the Wesco North divisional tournament at Eaglemont Golf Course in Mount Vernon.

McCardie’s stellar start anchored Oak Harbor to a 19-stroke team advantage over second-place Snohomish. Snohomish Monroe, Arlington and Cascade are all with in five strokes of one another.

McCardie is clear by seven strokes of a group tied for third that includes Snohomish’s Dylan Stensland, Monroe’s Matt Epstein and Cascade’s Dirk Snel.

The second round is slated for noon Monday at Walter Hall Golf Course in Everett.

Wesco South meet, Round 1: At Everett, Jackson junior Sean Fitzpatrick scorched the front nine with a 4-under par 32, including an eagle on the ninth hole, and finished with a 1-under 71 to top the leaderboard after the first round of the two-round tourney. Kamiak had four golfers (three sophomores and a freshman) score 75 or better to retain its overall team lead. Round two is scheduled to tee off at noon Monday at Legion Memorial.
