EVERETT — Nick Franklin, the 27th-overall pick in this year’s Major League Baseball draft, has joined the Everett AquaSox for the final two series of the season.
An 18-year-old switch-hitting shortstop out of Longwood, Fla., Franklin was the Seattle Mariners’ second first-round pick in June.
Franklin signed on Aug. 15 and spent the past two weeks playing with Peoria of the Arizona Rookie League, where he batted .302 with one home run and four RBI in 10 games.
Franklin replaces regular shortstop Anthony Phillips, who was promoted to Class AAA Tacoma.
The Sox play their final home game of the year on Thursday, then close out the season with a three-game series in Vancouver.
