• The Seattle Rifle and Pistol Association is offering a five-session Hunter Education Class on Feb. 15, 17, 22, 24 and 26 at the association’s gun range at Evergreen Sportsman’s Park in Machias. Preregistration takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 12 at the gun range clubhouse. Preregistration is required and a $5 fee must be paid at the time of registration. Greg’s Custom Fishing Rods in Lake Stevens is offering a four-session Rod Building Class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in February. Sessions are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 15, 16, 22 and 23. A class also is being offered in March. The cost is $35 plus rod blank and components. Preregistration is required. For more information, call 425-335-1391.

Greg’s Custom Fishing Rods in Lake Stevens is offering a four-session Fly Tying Class on Tuesday evenings in March. The class is for beginners. Sessions start at 6:30 p.m. on March 8, 15, 22 and 29. The cost is $50, which includes supplies. Preregistration is required. For more information, call 425-335-1391.

• The 25th annual Bill Hayes Hot Plug’s Blackmouth Derby is scheduled for Feb. 19-20 in Marine Areas 8-1 and 8-2. First prize is 45 percent of the total entry fees. The cost is $60 per person and the entry deadline is 2 p.m. on Feb. 18. Weigh-ins are between 3-4:30 p.m. at the Stanwood Eagles (6419 Pioneer Highway). Entry fees can be paid at the Stanwood Eagles, Elger Bay Grocery, Camano Marine, Holiday Sports, John’s Sporting Goods, and Hook, Line and Sinker.
