Razor clam diggers got the go-ahead late last week for a four-day coastal dig, today through Sunday, on evening tides. Copalis and Mocrocks beaches are open all four days, while Long Beach and Twin Harbors are scheduled for Friday through Sunday only. Kalaloch Beach in Olympic National Park will remain closed through the winter but may open in spring 2009 if the clam population grows to harvestable size.
Tides for the current dig are as follows: Today, minus 1.1 feet at 5:23 p.m.; Friday, minus 1.5 feet at 6:13 p.m.; Saturday, minus 1.6 feet at 7:02 p.m.; and Sunday, minus 1.4 feet at 7:50 p.m.
Other digs tentatively scheduled for the winter months include January 8-11, and February 6-8.
Long Beach extends from the Dolumbia River to Leadbetter Point, north of Ilwaco; Twin Harbors extends from the mouth of Willapa Bay north to the south Jetty at Westport; Copalis Beach runs from Grays Harbor north to the Copalis River, and includes the Copalis, Ocean Shores, Oyhut, and Ocean City areas; and Mocrocks extends from the Copalis River north to the south boundary of the Quinault Reservation near the Moclips River, including Iron Springs, Roosevelt Beach, Packfic Beach and Moclips.
