Panthers slip by Wildcats

SNOHOMISH — The Oak Harbor girls basketball team arrived in Snohomish Wednesday with the chance to clinch a district playoff berth with a win and a Monroe loss.

Snohomish, which already clinched a spot in the playoffs, didn’t let the Wildcats off easy, grinding out a 47-42 Wesco North victory to keep Oak Harbor — for now — out of the playoffs.

“It’s a big win for us,” Snohomish coach Ken Roberts said. “Oak Harbor is a good team. They’ve only lost to us and (undefeated) Lake Stevens.”

Oak Harbor converted seven of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 41-41.

Snohomish’s Marjorie Heard made 3 of 4 free throws in the fourth quarter to help put the game away for the Panthers.
