Penny Taylor of the Phoenix Mercury and Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty have been named the WNBA’s Western Conference and Eastern Conference players of the week, respectively. The award was given for games played June 20-26.
Taylor scored 30 points in a 105-98 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars on June 21. The loss was SanAntonio’s lone defeat this season. Taylor led the Mercury to a 3-0 record in the week — all three wins came on the road.
Pondexter led the Liberty to a 2-1 record in the week. This is the 11th time Pondexter has won the award in her six season in the WNBA, fourth most in WNBA history.
