Photos of the Year (part one)

Okay, so I know that it’s already the middle of January, and therefore a little late to be doing photos of the year, but I really don’t have anything else to talk about at this point, so here we go: here are some of my favorite photos from 2007.

The Everett Community College gym has this old timey feel because of the curved roof and half moon window bank on the north side. I worked and worked and worked until the play finally came together to capture the players and the gym structure.

Very cool story about a kid with cancer that made the most selfless wish to help others rather than himself. The whole team decided to shave their heads for him and the photo came together nicely when Colton didn’t raise his head to look into the camera, but still had a very nice smile beneath his baseball hat.

Jonathan Harty hit HARD last season and with this shot, I actually got him giving some poor soul a little chin music with the puck at his feet.

The Everett Explosion never really drew much of a crowd when it played at the Events Center, but they did have a decent amount of smoke in the arena when they tipped off for their very first game. Good faces and good colors on both teams that popped quite nicely with the haze of pre-game smoke in the background.

Was sent down to the Pacific Norhtwest Ballet School in Seattle to photograph a local kid who was not only the best in ballet class but the only male as well. My moment came near the very end of practice when they were working individually across the floor and Andrew was the last to go. All his female classmates were lined up on the opposite side of the room and watched as he jumped his way into a nice photo.

If two faces and a ball is the standard, then three faces and a ball have to be better right? Daytime prep sports rock by the way. All prep events should be held in the afternoon when there is actually light to shoot in.

The Snohomish baseball team played at Safeco Field during the state championships and it appeared like the venue got the best of them, as they made error after error during the game, including this one.

Holy cow it was hot that day. It was the beginning of July and one of the hottest days I can remember in the Northwest. This roller skating team practiced at a place called the Skate Deck and, of course, the Skate Deck had no air conditioning, so they opened the two doors they had and I was lucky enough to get my guy jumping at the perfect point near the open door.
