The Seattle Boat Show at Shilshole Marina returns after a four-year hiatus, just in time for what’s left of perhaps the best summer in living memory and what is touted as a great opportunity right now for real bargains in boats and boating equipment. There will be 200 new and pre-owned craft to choose from, 14 to 74 feet in length, plus a tent full of electronics and other gear. Hours are today and Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth 11-17, and free for kids 10 and under. Buy an e-ticket at seattleboatshow.com and receive a free cup of clam chowder at Ray’s Cafe on Shilshole, and a $15-off coupon at West Marine.
Attractions include free 90-minute sailboat rides, no catch, no sales pitches, no requirements, and life jackets are provided. Or tour one of the three real “SS Minnow” motor yachts used in the Gilligan’s Island television series. This one calls Nanaimo, B.C. home these days, and has been completely renovated. Largest boat at the show is a 74-foot deep-sea sportfisher built in Hoquiam, and the most unusual hull is a 20-foot amphibious inflatable which can top 60 mph on the water, or drive up the beach or launch ramp on three wheels at the push of a button.
