Well today’s the day. For most leagues it’s either the first round of the playoffs or if you’re lucky enough you have a bye today and can sit back and relax. I’m not going to rank the tight ends, but I’ll post the results of a small study I did on what teams allow the most points to tight ends. The No. 1 team – and it was a landslide – was the Chargers. Unfortunately they already allowed Zach Miller to have a nice day on Thursday night. As for these rankings if you have somebody like Tony Gonzalez or Jason Witten don’t let these numbers sway you. This is for people trying to choose between guys like John Carlson and Chris Cooley. I’ll list the top 5 teams and the bottom 5. The rest of the teams are giving up anywhere from 4 to 5.5 points per game so it’s not going to be a big impact:
1. Chargers, 10.14 ppg
2. Jets, 8.71
3. Broncos, 7.33
4. Eagles, 7.32
5. Packers, 6.05
28. Redskins, 3.6
29. Dolphins, 3.51
30. Giants, 3.35
31. Bucs, 3.31
32. 49ers, 3.07
Looking at these numbers, I think Vernon Davis and Owen Daniels are great plays along with Kevin Boss. Not so great would be Todd Heap, Robert Royal (who’s hurt anyway), Chris Cooley and Dustin Keller. I think you likely play Cooley if you’ve been relying on him all season.
I’ll post the full results of the study with this week’s games added later in the week.
