Below are the candidates for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Month for September. They were the winners of the four athlete-of-the-week polls during the month. The balloting for the athlete of the month closes at midnight Sunday.
Tanner Jellison | Lake Stevens | Football (Sept. 2-8)
Jellison, a junior, completed 18 of 21 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity start Sept. 6. He helped lead the Vikings to a 55-0 rout of Ferndale.
Cameron Bourne | Kamiak | Girls Soccer (Sept. 9-15)
Bourne, a freshman, scored three goals to lead the Knights to a 4-2 non-conference victory over Archbishop Murphy on Sept. 14.
Jackson Cole | Mariner | Football (Sept. 16-22)
Cole accounted for five touchdowns — three passing and two rushing — in the Marauders’ 51-6 win over rival Kamiak on Sept. 20. The dual-threat quarterback also kicked a 30-yard field goal and made six extra-points.
Dawson Coe and Jake Sulya | Marysville Pilchuck | Boys Tennis (Sept. 23-29)
Coe and Sulya won a marathon third-set super tiebreaker 22-20 at No. 2 doubles during a Wesco 3A North match at Stanwood on Sept. 25. Coe and Sulya played four matches in four days during the week and won all four.
