Portland State University women’s basketball player Eryn Jones has been named a preseason mid-major All-American by College Sports Madness.
CSM also tabbed Jones, a senior guard, as the preseason Big Sky Conference Player of the Year.
Jones, a graduate of Meadowdale High School, was the 2010-11 Big Sky MVP. She averaged 13.9 points and 4.7 assists per game. She led the Big Sky in 3-point percentage at 43.5, which ranked ninth nationally.
Jones and the Vikings open their 2011-12 season Nov. 4 with an exhibition game against Central Washington.
Fryer wins Jr. Golf event
Joe Fryer of Mukilteo won the 2011 Northwest Junior Golf Tour event held Oct. 8-9 in Port Orchard and Bremerton.
Fryer, competing in the Boys 9-12 Grade Division, shot an even-par 72 at McCormick Woods and a 1-under 71 on Gold Mountain’s Olympic Course for a 143 total and a one-shot victory over Andrew Kennedy of Redmond.
Williams inducted
Former Humboldt State University softball player Andrea Williams was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame on Sept. 30.
Williams, a 2000 graduate of Snohomish High School, played for the Lumberjacks from 2001-2004. A centerfielder, she was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American and helped lead Humboldt State to four Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles.
