I arrived to Comcast Arena today and was greeted with the news that defenseman Jeff Regier was reassigned. The move leaves Everett without a 16-year-old on the roster.
This was a little surprising, as I’m not sure I would have put Regier last on Everett’s depth chart among defensemen.
On the other hand, 16-year-olds have to play 40 games. With the Tips having nine defensemen and five of the starting spots basically locked up, it would have been difficult for Regier to get his 40, and impossible for Everett to get everyone requisite playing time to develop.
Regier’s destination isn’t yet determined. It will be for either a Junior A or Junior B team, meaning either the BCHL or the PIJHL.
