Kamiak wrestling

The senior co-captain pinned his opponent at 189 pounds to clinch Kamiak’s 39-27 victory over Mariner, its first-ever dual-meet win over its Mukilteo School District rival.

As a team captain, Hadley’s leadership role includes several functions.

“They (the captains) run the team,” Kamiak coach Dan Hanika said. “They do a lot of the management things with the younger wrestlers. They pretty much take care of everything.”

Hadley does everything from conducting warmups to supervising the team’s study table.

“He’s a good student,” Hanika said. “He helps in all phases of the game. It’s like having another coach on the team.”

Hadley also leads by example as evidenced by his key win Thursday.

“He’s not the most skilled wrestler we’ve ever had in the program,” Hanika said, “but you won’t find a kid who works harder. And the younger guys follow that example.”

Hadley, a linebacker on the football team, hopes to play college football and is involved in recruiting at the moment. But he has decided to put off his campus visits until after the wrestling season is concluded.

That’s just another way he can help the team.
