Oak Harbor swimming
The senior swimmer won her sixth and seventh state championships at the 4A state meet. She won her fourth straight title in the 100-yard breaststroke in an automatic All-America time of one minute, 2.80 seconds and also swam an automatic AA time of 23.28 seconds in the 50 freestyle. The University of Southern California-bound McIntyre was named the swimmer of the meet by the 4A coaches.
While not denigrating the efforts of her competitors, McIntyre, who won the breaststroke by almost a full second, said she has had to push herself all season.
“This year it has been me and the clock,” McIntyre said.
Next year at USC it’ll be a different story.
“She’ll be pushed by teammates, she won’t win every race at practice,” said Oak Harbor coach Jeanette Dorantes, who swam collegeiately at Illinois State. “I think she’s going to continue to drop her times.”
McIntyre can’t wait.
“It’s going to be so surreal,” McIntyre said. “I can’t even imagine it yet.”
Also pursued by Arizona, Georgia, Txas A&M, Indiana and Hawaii, McIntyre said she plans to major in communications.
