Prep Athlete of the Week

Meadowdale, football

The 5-foot-11 senior wide receiver/defensive back caught six passes for 173 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown reception, and intercepted two passes Friday night in Meadowdale’s 24-7 road victory over Everett.

“He’s made big plays over the last couple years,” said Meadowdale coach Mark Stewart, whose Mavericks (6-2) have won five consecutive games. “He’s kind of a come-on-in-the-clutch kind of guy.”

Meadowdale’s offense faced third-and-long from its own 18-yard line in the first quarter when Linton raced down the right sideline on a fade route. Stewart said he thought Mavericks quarterback Demetri Huffman threw the ball too far, but Linton made a leaping, one-handed catch over an Everett defender and raced to the end zone.

“He’s a great athlete,” Stewart said of Linton, who is also a standout guard for the Meadowdale basketball team. “He has the ability to be a nice (college) wide receiver. His hand-eye coordination, in terms of catching the ball, is just great.”

Linton ranks among the Western Conference South Division leaders this season with 41 receptions for 649 yards and six TDs.
