EVERETT — Archbishop Murphy’s Steve Carratt hit the game-winning double down the right field line to bring home Logan Kegley for the Wildcats’ 3-2 Cascade Conference victory at Archbishop Murphy High School on Monday. Kegley provided two of his teams three runs scored, also coming home in the second inning from second base on a Carratt RBI-single and a Cedarcrest fielding error. Carratt finished 2-for-3 with the two RBI. Connor Huesers drove in the other run for Archbishop Murphy, a single in the first inning.
Levi MaVorhis got the start on the mound for the home team and gave up two unearned runs, two walks and tallied four strikeouts before being relieved in the sixth inning by Marcus Burdyshaw, who gave up a walk and had three strikeouts of his own. Combined, the pitchers stranded Cedarcrest runners in five of the seven innings.
“They both battled out of situations where there they (Cedarcrest) had go-ahead runs in scoring positions,” said Archbishop Murphy coach Stan Taloff. “It was a good, sound game, could’ve gone either way. Our pitchers kept us in it, and we kept it close enough to win at the end.”
Paul Wilen led Cedarcrest with two stolen bases and a double. Tanner Marty scored both Cedarcrest runs, and finished the day 1-for-3.
