BOTHELL — Relief pitcher Shawn Elder allowed one run on seven hits in 62/3 innings as Everett beat Lynnwood 9-3 in a Wesco 3A baseball game Saturday at Lynnwood High School.
After Lynnwood scored two first-inning runs on four hits and a walk, Elder came on to extract the Seagulls from a two-out, bases-loaded jam.
Elder walked and struck out four as he won his first game of the season.
Everett’s Lucas Sontra hit a three-run homer in the third inning to put the Seagulls up 3-2. Reece Hoiby hit a double and a home run for Everett.
Everett, which had lost five in row earlier in the season, won its fourth straight.
“We were picked to finish last in Wesco 3A, so this (win) is nice,” said Everett coach Jamie Sluys. “The league is sort of in two halves. That fourth spot is wide open.
“Those tops teams (Shorewood, Oak Harbor and Mountlake Terrace) are all ranked in the state, but the rest of those spots are open. I’m optimistic that we’ll stick right in the middle of the pack and have a good ending, but right now we’re just jockeying for position.”
